Salvation Part 2- Redemption

This study is on Redemption.  The act that brings a holy righteous God back together with the creation that he loves so much

The Dilemma

In Part 1 of this study, it was discussed that mankind, no matter how "good" has sinned and therefore he is not worthy of a relationship with God the Father.  We also looked at God's righteousness.  That God is totally righteous and cannot look be in the presence of sin.  Sin is destroyed in His presence just as darkness is destroyed in the presence of Light.  God is totally Just and this justice demands a punishment for sin. This is called Judgment.

God created us to be in his presence and deeply desires to have fellowship (friendship) with Him.  There is a dilemma that needs to be worked out.  God is separated from you who He loves very much.  You are seperated from the very creator who gives you life. There has to be an answer.

Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

Punishment for Sin

God, being totally righteous, has set in his law a punishment for sin.  That punishment is death.  It is inescapable because God's law is perfect and cannot be changed.  All sin is punished by death.  That death is in the present (while we are living) It is seperation from God now in our personal lives.  And separation eternally which is hell.

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

God made a Way

God made a way for all his children to escape death.  He came down to earth to die a horrible death in our place.  He took our punishment for our sins upon himself.  He was beaten severely many times over.  He was so disfigured at the end of his crucifixion that he was barely recognizeable.  He was then hung on a cross with nails.  He took our place.  Worst of all, he was separated from his Father and cast off as a sinner in our stead.

Isa 53:5 But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities (sin): the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

In the last hours of His crucifixion God the Father actually turned away from Jesus and withdrew from him.  He was totally seperated from his loving Father he had trusted in and clung to  his entire life. He actually experienced hell on our behalf.

But Jesus, being God in the flesh, can never die.  He overcomes death.  three days later he rose from the grave.  He overcame death and made a clear way for us to escape death and judgement.

Rom 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Rom 6:4-5  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also [in the likeness] of [his] resurrection:

Life - Now and Forever

Because Jesus took our sins and punishment upon himself, we may have eternal life.  He already forgave us. He has provided a way.

You need to recognize your sinful condition which we previously studied...

Psa 14:3 They are all gone aside, they are [all] together become filthy: [there is] none that doeth good, no, not one.

Rom 3:23   For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Isa 64:6 But we are all as an unclean [thing], and all our righteousnesses [are] as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

And accept his forgiveness

Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Confess him as Lord

And commit your life to following him as His child.

He is our "scapegoat"

Lev 16:21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, (Represents Jesus) and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send [him] away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:

1Jo 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Invitation Into His Family

When we confess our sins, recieve forgiveness, and confess Jesus as Lord or ruler of our lives, it also makes us his children.  We become sons and daughters with Him.  He loves us, protects, provides, cares for us as a Father or Mother would for thier children.  We have a HUGE enheritance to enjoy now, not just after we die.  There are many benefits to becoming his son or daugher, but there are also responsibilities. In making Him Lord, we agree to let him live within us and to turn away from those things which displease Him. (With his help of course)

This can be done very simply, in your own words.  Just tell him you have sinned. Recieve His forgiveness. Devote your life to following him.
